ASSESMENT #1 BLOG POST

My Blog is made up of several links to sites that interest me, pictures I love, photo's of my own and funny things that I have come across. I have tried to make my Blog a profile reflecting my interests, giving all who look at it an overall look at me and what I surround myself with. I found this hard to do at the begginning... being totally unfamiliar with blogging and found it a little scary showing others, sometimes strangers, a bit about myself. I have also created a Del.icio.us and Flickr account which is linked to my blog and creates a network for all three sites. On my Flickr site I have tried to put a range of photo's of my friends, family, uni work and photo's I have found that I love. I have found Flickr to be a great way of exploring photography and finding images of just about anything. On my Del.icio.us account I have bookmarked sites that I love and tend to look at a lot, hoping others will like them as well. I found Del.icio.us hard to use at first and was't sure of it's purpose, but it is a very handy tool and makes using the internet a much more enjoyable experience. I am actually quite shocked at the amount of items and people you can find on the internet... while some things are boring and pointless, others are great and I have spent many hours exploring the great stuff!
So what have I done in MPI104 this term?
- Created a Gmail acocunt and Blog using Blogger
- Created Flickr account and linked it to my blog
- Created Del.icio.us account and linked it to my blog and Flickr account
- Posted entries on my Blog about things that interest me
- Uploaded images on to Flickr site, labeled, tagged and Grouped
- Saved sites to Del.icio.us account
- Searched others Images on Flickr and tagged as a favourite or left a comment
- Have added more posts to blog and more links as well as looking at other people's blog and leaving comments
- Have added a film clip and list to blog
- Have played with fonts, colours and layout of my blog
I hope to get better at blogging, being my first time I know there are more things to do and better ways to do them, as well as building a really interesting Flickr and Del.icio.us account for others to enjoy.

THE PARODY OF SAFETY SIGNS

clipped from www.safenow.org
The US government has a
website, http://www.ready.gov.  It's
another attempt at scare mongering in the style of
the old "duck and cover" advice after WWII.
If a door is
closed, karate chop it open.
If you've
become a radiation mutant with a deformed hand,
remember to close the window. No one wants to see that.
If you hear
the Backstreet Boys, Michael Bolton or Yanni on the radio,
cower in the corner or run like hell.
Your
respiratory and digestive systems are optional. Cast them
aside if you feel you no longer need them.
That closet
door in your bedroom leads to the gates of Hell. Don't go
there.
If your
intended destination is suddenly vaporized, consider pulling
over and watching the cool light show.
If you are
trapped with no hope of being found, amuse yourself in your
final moments with shadow puppets.

Miranda Hobbs- Sex + The City

Favourite Chick from Sex and The City...
Favourite Quotes...

"Maybe it's maturity or the wisdom that comes with age, but the witch in Hansel and Gretel—she's very misunderstood. I mean, the woman builds her dream house and these brats come along and start eating it."

Miranda: I'm sorry, Steve, I'm an asshole.
Steve: Yeah you are. But you're my asshole.
Miranda: That's sweet. And gross, at the same time.

"I know you're probably busy, having mind-blowing sex right now, but I feel that you need to know your good friend - Miranda Hobbes - has just taken a piece of cake out of the garbage and eaten it. You'll probably need this information when you check me into the Betty Crocker Clinic."

Miranda: Steve is completely predictable but that's one of the things I love about him. He's just so comfortable and safe.
Carrie: Are you dating a man or a minivan?

Things you would never know if it weren’t for the movies…

Large, loft apartments In New York City are plentiful and affordable, even if the tenants are unemployed.

Should you decide to defuse a bomb, don’t worry about which wire to cut. You will always choose the right one.

It doesn’t matter if you are greatly outnumbered in a fight involving martial arts. Your enemies will wait patiently to attack you one by one… dancing around in a threatening manner until you have dispatched their predecessors.

When you turn out the light to go to bed, every thing in your bedroom will still be clearly visible but slightly blue.

Rather than wasting bullets, megalomaniacs prefer to kill their enemies using complex machinery involving fused, deadly gasses, laser, buzz saws and hungry sharks, all of which will give their captives at least 20 minutes to escape

JODI PICOULT- The Pact

I have just finished reading a great novel by Jodi Picoult called "The Pact". I definantly recommend reading this book, very easy reading for the times you don't feel like doing uni work... If anyone has read any other novel's by Jodi I would love to know what they were like, so leave a comment.
Here is a synopsis on "The Pact"
In this contemporary tale of love and friendship, Jodi Picoult brings to life a familiar world, and in a single terrifying moment awakens every parent's worse fear: We think we know our children… but do we ever really know them at all?

For eighteen years the Hartes and the Golds have lived next door to each other, sharing everything from Chinese food to chicken pox to carpool duty-- they've grown so close it seems they have always been a part of each other's lives. Parents and children alike have been best friends, so it's no surprise that in high school Chris and Emily's friendship blossoms into something more. They've been soul mates since they were born.

So when midnight calls from the hospital come in, no one is ready for the appalling truth: Emily is dead at seventeen from a gunshot wound to the head. There's a single unspent bullet in the gun that Chris took from his father's cabinet-- a bullet that Chris tells police he intended for himself. But a local detective has doubts about the suicide pact that Chris has described.

The profound questions faced by the characters in this heart-rending novel are those we can all relate to: How well do we ever really know our children, our friends? What if…? As its chapters unfold, alternating between an idyllic past and an unthinkable present, The Pact paints an indelible portrait of families in anguish… culminating in an astonishingly suspenseful courtroom drama as Chris finds himself on trial for murder.

With this riveting psychological drama, Jodi Picoult explores the dynamics of intimate relationships under stress-- from the seemingly inexplicable mind of a teenager to the bonds of friendship and marriage. Few writers have such a gift for evoking everyday life coupled with the ability to create a level of dramatic tension that will keep you up reading late into the night. The Pact is storytelling at its best: wonderfully observed, deeply moving, and utterly impossible to put down
